W195 - 19" Buffalo Skull Shield - Artist: Clara Vasquez; 129 098 - Description: Shields were painted by Holy men and depicted the visionary beings and animals that provided them with mystic guidance. The power of the shield was evoked by its owner for spiritual and physical protection. This is a beautiful shield with hand painted designs. The rawhide shield has a Buffalo Skull in the middle, which is surrounded by a Native American circle design. Around the parameter is a step-like design painted in red, yellow, teal, and cream colored lines. Hanging from the shield, are eight black feathers. The feathers are attached by strips of tan leather, wooden beads, antler buttons, and shotgun shells. The rawhide shield measures 31" long and 19" wide. This Native American creation comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
